Our Zero waste Mascara made with all natural ingredients that will not only condition your lashes but lengthen and thicken your lashes with every stroke. Nutrients such as Jojoba oil nourishes and conditions lashes, while the waxes, Kaolin Clay, Zinc Oxide and other dynamic ingredients adds thickness & definition.
Benefits: Organic, Hypoallergenic, Great for very sensitive eyes.
Use: This mascara is build-able without being too clumpy. Mix the wetting agent well into the cake and swirl the brush and apply. Traditionally cake mascara was just applied to the upper lashes.
Apply just one layer for a soft and natural look. For a little more emphasis, follow with second (or third) layer after the first layer dries.

Why Use Cake Mascara?
Cake mascara was originally used in the nineteenth century, back then it was known as 'water cosmetique' or 'mascaro' and was made with bar soap mixed with pigment. It was in the early 1990’s that the word mascara was coined and the cake form was available to buy right up into the 1970’s. The early cake soap did hurt if it got into the eyes because the base was soap, eventually emulsifiers were used along with fillers to replace the soap.
The Birth of Modern Day Macara
Eventually the wax and oil mix along with water and pigments were premixed and syringed into a tube that contained a wand, what is now known as modern day mascara.
· Nowadays most modern day mascara contains a whole cornucopia of ingredients including Parabens, Propylene Glycol, Aluminium Powder. Coal Tar Dyes, Fragrance, Formaldehyde Releasing Preservatives, BHT and BHA and the list goes on.
As a cosmetic formulator of a natural and holistic private label company, the only product I wasn’t happy with was our mascara, not so much for the ingredients used which was 100% natural and holistic, but the way bacteria could breed in the tube after using.
Mascara in a tube by its nature is a petri dish for bacteria. Eyelashes contain the most microbes on the body and by touching the eyelashes with a brush and then inserting it back into the tube, one is creating a perfect environment for bacteria to grow, goodness knows what happens when the mascara is shared by multiple people!
Because of this, commercial made mascara is loaded with preservatives in order to combat this, but you can’t hold back nature, and it is suggested by companies that mascara should be discarded after 3 months of using.
Added to this, the mascara plastic tube and wand adds to the ever growing mountain of plastic waste that is building up on this planet.
Back to Basics
In order to be able to offer zero waste mascara, we went back to the basics of using cake mascara. So with this in mind, we now offer a mascara that is not only made from 100% natural ingredients but also vegan as well. The packaging is made from tin and the brush which is an optional purchase is made from bamboo.
Most cake mascara is difficult to use and messy. Ours goes on easily and can be easily removed with cleansing lotion. For those sweaty occasions, we do offer a waterproofing wetting agent that can be added instead of water. This is an optional purchase and we do offer refills for the wetting agent.
To sum up, cake mascara is easy to travel with and it’s hygienic - For all the reasons mentioned previously. It’s 3 products in 1 - can be used for your brows, as an eyeliner as well as lashes! Excellent for sensitive eyes - our cake mascara has a very low ingredient count, unlike regular mascara’s, It is also free from harmful chemicals such as Parabens etc. It’s better for the environment – When you have finished the mascara you can reuse the tin pan for anything!
Application of Cake Mascara
Apply cake mascara with a mascara brush. The cake mascara also doubles as an eyeliner.
For application as a mascara, add a few drops of water to a brush and mix into the cake and then apply. Pause between coats for drying time and apply another coat as needed until you reach your desired length and fullness.
We do offer a liquid that acts as an emollient and waterproofing agent. To use, add 1 to 3 drops of the liquid onto the cake and rub the mascara wand or brush into the wetted cake and brush on.
